Panchakarma is Ayurveda’s classical system of cleansing therapies. It is always planned after a medical evaluation and follows three phases.
1. Purva Karma — preparation
This phase prepares the body through Snehana (oleation, internally and externally with Abhyanga) and Swedana (herbal steam). It helps loosen and mobilise doshas.
2. Pradhana Karma — main procedure
Depending on your condition, the physician may choose Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya or other procedures. Not every patient needs all of them.
3. Paschat Karma — recovery
A graduated diet (Samsarjana Krama) and rest help digestion return to normal. Following this phase carefully is as important as the procedure itself.
Practical tips
- Keep your schedule light during the programme.
- Follow diet instructions strictly.
- Inform your doctor about all medicines and health conditions.
Panchakarma procedures are not suitable for everyone. Your physician will decide what is appropriate for you.
