What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma (“five actions”) is the classical Ayurvedic system of purification. It removes aggravated doshas from the body through carefully planned procedures, preceded by preparatory therapies (Purva Karma) and followed by a graduated diet (Paschat Karma).

All therapies are prescribed only after an individual medical evaluation. Not every therapy is suitable for every person.

Panchakarma FAQs

Are Ayurvedic treatments safe?

When prescribed by qualified Ayurvedic physicians and prepared under quality standards, Ayurvedic medicines and therapies are generally well tolerated. Safety depends on the right diagnosis, dose and duration, so we advise against self-medication. Always tell your doctor about other medicines you take.

What is Panchakarma?

Panchakarma is the classical Ayurvedic system of five cleansing procedures — Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya and Raktamokshana — along with preparatory therapies like Abhyanga and Swedana. It is planned individually after a medical evaluation.

Can I continue my allopathic medicines with Ayurvedic treatment?

In most cases, yes. Please bring a list of all current medicines. Never stop prescribed medicines, especially for diabetes, blood pressure, heart or thyroid conditions, without consulting the doctor who prescribed them.

Is Panchakarma suitable for everyone?

No. Some procedures are not suitable during pregnancy, in very weak or elderly patients, or with certain medical conditions. Our physicians decide the suitable therapies after examining you.

How long does Ayurvedic treatment take?

Duration depends on the condition, how long you have had it and your overall health. Your physician will explain the expected course of therapies and medicines after the first evaluation.

Do I need to stay in the hospital for Panchakarma?

Many therapies are done on a day-care basis. Intensive procedures like Vamana or Virechana may need closer supervision; the doctor will advise outpatient or inpatient care.
